I wanted to submit a complaint about the "company" that charged my account: Dri Avast Software. I will be looking for a new anti-virus software asap. Apparently, they have known about this scam for a while but I never rec'd any kind of email from them warning of this potential threat. This has caused me to lose trust in Avast, a company that I had felt secure with after having paid extra for a "pro" account. Still, I fill a bit uneasy knowing that these people had complete access to my computer and files. I did so and cancelled the card immediately. After giving them my phone number I was quickly informed that I had been scammed and that I should call the credit card company immediately.

I used my cell to look up Avast Tech Support to see what was going on. They ran some other tool called Tech Tool that looked very "official." (And, I might add that all of the alleged Avast pop-up windows that appeared earlier on, also looked very official.) For some reason, I started to get a bit suspicious when suddenly, the Bomgar chat window and everything else on my screen disappeared and my my computer crashed.

She had me install a remote support program called Bomgar and eventually a tech person was "scheduled" to access my computer remotely and clean things up. Not cheap, but I was excited to have my computer cleaned up w/out having to take it to someone physically. While she tried to upsell me on an annual support package, I told her that I had recently quit my job and could not afford it. Since my computer had been become increasingly slow in the last few months and several programs and Chrome and Firefox browsers seemed to be crashing more than usual, I foolishly believed that she was sincere and wanted to help me.

She asked me if my computer had been slow or if programs have been crashing frequently and I told her yes (whose PC isn't slow!) So, she went through what I now believe was Windows Events and showed several "critical" problems with my computer that needed cleaning up. She went to to say that an application could be causing a conflict and preventing Avast from working. Someone named Tia Shirley informed me that the fact that my Avast wasn't working was a sign that some malicious software had infected my computer. So, I called the number listed on the support window. So, I hit another button for Tech Support. When I clicked on the icon I got an official Avast-looking window informing me that I was unprotected and to click on a "Fix Now" button, which I did. While working, I noticed that the Avast Antivirus Software icon in the my laptop system tray had a red X through it. I am embarrassed to say that I was scammed today.
